First from 12 years concert of Krzysztof Penderecki

Icon of classical music – Krzysztof Penderecki will give a concert on KINOTEKA Closing Night Gala in London, on 22 march 2012. Penderecki will collaborate with Radiohead guitarist – Jonny Greenwood. Concert will be accompanied by a lighting design and striking contemporary video. Tickets cost from 25 to 30 pounds.

Exhibition: Poles and Czechoslovaks in the Battle of Britain

Exhibition is created in association with the Polish Institute of National Remembrance. From 16th of Septemter 2011 till 4th of March visitors can watch archive film footage, drawings, sculpture the bravery of the men of No 303 Polish Squadron as well as individuals such as Josef Frantisek- Czech Fighter Pilot. Exhibition is placed in The Royal Air Force Museum London and the entrance is free.

Polish Poet Died

Wisława Szymborska, one of the most popular polish poets, died on Wednesday, 1 February 2012.

Szymborska died in her sleep at her home in Kraków. She was 88 year old. She was a heavy smoker, and she died of lung cancer. A journalist, Katarzyzna Kolenda-Zalewska said, that poet died surrounded by family and friends. Continue reading

Poland in eurozone

According to Ryszard Petru, chief economic advisor for Demos Europa, Polish economic future depends on success of common currency. Over half of all Polish exports go to eurozone, especially to Germany.

Although Polish economy compared to Czech Republic, Hungary or Slovakia is less open. In Poland exports-to-GDP ratio is about 40%, while in Czech Republic, Hungary or Slovakia is twice higher (around 80%).

The end of the Polish Presidency in the EU

Thirty years ago Polish people didn’t expect that the situation in Poland could be better (Martial Law times). They were predicting a future without colors, cold and bleak. Now Poland is not only in the European Union, but is a very important Member State, too. After six months of the EU rotating presidency we can recap it in the sentence: ‘There were no special fireworks, but no slip-ups either’.

The summary of achievements and failures gives an result with the success of the accession policy with Croatia (signed it) and the big failure in the Eastern Europe – especially treatment of the Lukashenko regime in Belarus and Yulia Tymoshenko on a public trail in the Ukraine.

The next country in queue for the EU leadership will be Denmark.

Does immigration link to increased unemployment?

According to independent economists, enhanced unemployment in UK is not caused by rising immigration. Also, the respected National Institute of Economic and Social Research claims that an influx of foreign nationals into the UK is not associated with rising joblessness in Great Britain, even at times of recession.
