The former Polish president Lech Walesa said a few words about his friend, a former president, too (Vaclav Havel was the President of the Czech Republic until 2003). Havel have recently died of cancer. An information of his death spread around the world. People from other countries offered condolences.
UK Foreign Secretary William Hague said that he was greatly saddened to hear about the death of Vaclav Havel. He was the first democratically elected president in the Czech Republic after the bloodless Velvet Revolution.
Lech Walesa said about him: ‘A great man, a meritorious man. He was fighting with a pen and with words. We will all miss him. Shall he rest in peace’.
